Movie Summary

The movie starts with all the dismantling of an old rag doll, and its reconstruction into a tiny woman. Coraline Jones (voice: Dakota Fanning), a woman of eleven or so, moves with her mother and father (voices: Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman) into an apartment in a dilapidated pink Victorian home called the Pink Palace Apartments. On the walk having a dousing rod, Coraline matches Wybie Lovat (voice: Robert Bailey Jr.), whose grandmother grew up in the home, along with a cat (voice: Keith David) that Wybie says is feral. They discover an old effectively on the hill above the home. Wybie is a tiny surprised that his grandmother agreed to rent for the Joneses; typically she tries to discover tenants without children. Later, Coraline’s mother provides her an old ragdoll that Wybie brought over — the doll from the beginning with the movie. A note says that he found it at his grandmother’s in an old chest. The button-eyed doll looks strikingly like Coraline. Coraline is lonely, getting moved away from her pals, and her mother and father don’t pay much awareness to her because they’re busy writing a garden catalog. In the living area she finds a tiny door that’s been wallpapered over. She nags her mother to open it, but there’s only a brick wall on the other side. The mother speculates that it was closed off when the old home was divided into apartments. That evening, Coraline wakes up and follows a mouse through the tiny door, which now opens on the mysterious tunnel. At …
