Was the Lion King just a cheap ripoff of the Kimba the white lion series?

04 Jun

I think so, based on some of the blog sites and wikipedia, there are severe indications. The makers of Lion King of course denies it, but just like the game magic the gathering, once again the US gets away with stealing another country’s idea.

    It’s a ripoff of Hamlet.

A son sees the ghost of his father telling him that his uncle is the killer. He then has to return home to avenge his father and save the kingdom.

I agree that it’s a rip off of hamlet AND kimba, only Disney changed it and made it into a movie
I first saw kimba at my library and though it was a lot liike the lion king (after I saw lion king)

Put it this way. I saw Kimba in the sixties when I was a kid. I LOVED it of course. By the time the Lion King came out I was too old to go see animation for any reason except I love it. I did not love it. I did not like it. If Disney wants to deny it’s a ripoff of Kimba, fine. It’s still cheap. It’s got NO CLASS and it never will, however much money they put into broadway shows and other spinoffs.

First off, nothing Disney makes is cheap! That aside, of course elements were clearly taken. Disney must maintain, for legal reasons, the position that they’d never heard of it, yadda yadda. That’s how it goes. There is really very little that is new, but this example stands out because of how glaring it is. This case is a lot like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” by Jet and “Lust for Life” by Iggy Pop: very similar, disappointing in its lack of creativity, yet ultimately the supposed original isn’t even that original! Lust for Life was essentially the riff of “Touch Me” by The Doors with “You Can’t Hurry Love” by the Supremes’ drum pattern and lyrics from a William S. Burroughs book.

As a side note, Magic: the Gathering was the first modern collectible card game, released in 1993. Also, baseball trading cards are from the US, so I’m not really feeling you on that point.
