Why is Blockbuster charging late fees again?

23 Mar

I don’t know if it is only in Dallas TX but here’s my story:
Blockbuster is offering some option. Instead of paying your renting $4 they give you the choice to rent a new release as long as you bring back the movie the following day. $ 1.99 GREAT DEAL.!
But they don’t inform you that any non release and free movie rentals that you earn need to be back as well the following day!! Non release movies are charged .99c per DAY!! Tonight they were trying to charge me $14 on fees for non- new release movies!! I am like what happen with the non fee policies that you guys had for non new release movies? They did not care so I closed my account after being 6 years with them. What do you guys are thinking about that crookery ?? In a recession you will imagine they will try to keep the customers!! So I guess Blockbusters is back to charge their late fees again!!
I was a few days late on NON release movies. 2 of them. NEVER they charge fees before!!

They try out different things every few months. When I was working there (8 months ago) they were discussing going back to late fees. My store manager told me they were going to try it out to see the outcome. The grace period thing wasn’t working as well as they expected.

When I asked the staff at the store closest to me they said it was because people were keeping dvds for a month at a time. That didn’t sound right to me, because they were charging a fee for returning it late, after the grace period. With their terminology they didn’t call it a late fee, but what else was it?

Now they have shortened the regular rental time from a week to five days and charge a fee right away if you don’t get it back by the fifth day. Or the second day for a new release.

One good thing, though – with this new setup if you are returning discs you got by mail through the internet service, you can take out a new release and keep it for five days, at least where I live in the southeast.
